The shoulder is one of the most mobile and complex joints in the body. There are many different injuries and conditions that can cause pain, whilst there are some that stem from the shoulder itself such as impingement or labral injury, we often see the shoulder becoming victim from issues in surrounding joints such as the neck and upper back.

How does Shoulder Pain present itself?

Shoulder pain itself can present in many different ways and areas, your practitioner will go through a thorough assessment looking at range of movement and perform many clinical tests to identify the cause of the pain.

What can cause Shoulder Pain?

Much like any injury, its important to understand what may be causing pain around the shoulder so we have listed some common causes of shoulder pain below:

  • Shoulder impingement or overuse injury
  • Damage to the cartilage within the shoulder (labral injury)
  • Arthritis
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Referral from the upper back and neck
  • Clavicular injury
  • Traumatic/sporting injury

Treatment for Shoulder Pain

Your practitioner will spend your first appointment discussing your shoulder pain as well as gaining an understanding of your previous medical history and daily lifestyle. This allows us to get the whole picture and develop your treatment to suit your needs and fit in with your life.

Within your treatment plan we will use a range of different therapies such as spinal mobilisations, soft tissue manipulation and medical acupuncture.
