Sciatica is characterised by pain or discomfort going down the back of the leg, usually associated with the sciatic nerve. The Sciatic nerve runs from the lower back down the buttocks, down the back of the leg and into the feet, so you can understand how much of an issue this can cause if it becomes irritated!

What causes Sciatica?

Pain can be caused by compression or irritation of this nerve whether that is from surrounding muscles or from restrictions in the spine itself as the nerve passes through.

Symptoms of Sciatica

Sciatica can often cause difficulty walking, reduce strength or produce or symptoms of numbness which can be scary if you have never experienced those type of symptoms before, so it’s important to seek help from a medical professional as soon as possible. These types of symptoms can be also caused by a range of different injuries such as hamstring tears or damage to the discs in your spine so its essential to determine where your pain is coming from.
